OVER AND OVER AGAIN

The universe is expanding so they say.
But you know it won't always be that way.
One day we'll all return to where it all began
It happens over and over again.

We thought the Romans were the strongest of the strong
That they'd last forever, but we were wrong.
Societies, like mortal men, destroy themselves, and then
It happens over and over again.

A man is formed from the mud and the grime
He springs to life, but for such a short time.
Then he returns to the earth he's buried in
It happens over and over again.

A sailor with his glass cries Ahoy, I Spy Land
Then to the planets and the cosmos he'll expand
Frontiers appear, ever larger, without end
It happens over and over again.

Your weary head's wondering what you did today
It's all routine, you know, you've got to get away
But like the billions of women and men
You do it over and over again.

One day you step aside and wonder what it means
A cycle of cycles, life isn't what it seems
You can never lose, but you can never win
When it happens over and over again.
